Municipal Development Institute (MDI) is the Ukrainian consultant in the field of sustainable municipal and local development. In 2004 MDI was established by a group of economists, engineers, sociologists, environmental and other experts who were involved into the implementation of the large-scale development projects funded by USAID.

Through its two wings – Limited Liability Company “Municipal Development Institute” and All-Ukrainian Charitable Organization "Municipal Development Institute" MDI works to respond to stakeholders’ needs in obtaining services and assistance in the fields of municipal and regional socio-economic development, including strategic development planning at the regional level and for utility companies, provision of housing and communal services, energy conservation and reduction of CO2 emissions, social assistance for consumers of housing and communal services, public outreach and education and strengthening of the civil society. Both MDI entities employ the same pool of consultants, thus sharing common expertise.

Since 2004 MDI contributed to successful implementation of more than 50 technical assistance projects in Ukraine, including several projects in NIS, and acted as a sole implementer or a sub-contractor to international consulting companies.

Over the years we have built a large network of local partners, as well as national and international organizations, consultants, research and development institutes and databanks, thus having access to resources, information and expertise. We have experience of successful cooperation with national legislative and executive power bodies. At the local level, MDI partners with local governments, budgetary institutions, utility companies, design organizations, research institutes, new territorial communities, industry associations, associations of homeowners, NGOs. We have a proven and successful track record in preparing, managing and implementing projects and programs.
