The goal of this Project was to elaborate the educational course “Let’s Preserve the Environment Together” for the fourth-graders of the comprehensive secondary schools.

 

This included the implementation of the following tasks:

  1. Elaboration of the learning and teaching framework for the educational course “Let’s Preserve the Environment Together” for the 4th grade and updating the unit of the online-platform http://energyschool.org.ua/ to be filled with course materials.
  2. Preparation and publishing of the informational materials and thematic articles about the key issues of the environmental protection and prevention of the climate change.
  3. Organizational preparation for the pilot implementation of the new course in the secondary schools of Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts.

Project achievements

  • On a tight schedule, a syllabus and a manual within the educational course “Let’s Preserve the Environment Together” for the 4th grade were created. As of December 2021, the manual is at the page planning stage to be published soon.
  • As of December 2021, the educational materials of this innovative course are being uploaded to the tailored unit of the free online-platform http://energyschool.org.ua/.
  • The informational and outreach campaign in the social networks and regional online mass media was carried out. This comprised publishing of six articles, incl. 5 analytical ones. The awareness of the
  • Eastern communities was raised, and the eco-consciousness of the locals was improved. The focus was on the necessity of personal engagement into solving the issues of the climate protection and climate change prevention. The civic support of the state efforts regarding Ukraine’s CE and EE development was strengthened. This, i.a., includes the just transition of the coal-mining regions.
    EOI letters regarding learning of the educational course “Let’s Preserve the Environment Together” were received from 68 educational establishments (55 schools from Donetsk and 13 from Luhansk Oblasts, and this number exceeded the planned minimum).

Further plans
The launch of the educational course is planned for January 2022. The participants of the pilot stage will be 68 educational establishments based in the Eastern Ukraine.
An online training on the methodology of teaching the educational course “Let’s Preserve the Environment Together” will be held for the educators.
During the learning process children and their parents will participate in doing practical ecological tasks, in eco-initiatives and green activities, thus expanding the community of eco-volunteers and eco-conscious people in the coal-mining regions of Ukraine,
During 2022-2025 MDI plans to engage at least 1000 secondary schools nationwide to learning of the innovative educational course “Let’s Preserve the Environment Together”. This will be done via the distance-learning platform http://energyschool.org.ua/. The efforts will be funded by the Energy Company “DTEK”.

 

About the Project
The Project “Let’s Preserve the Environment Together”, which was a winner of the National Innovations Contest “EastCode 2021”, is implemented by MDI jointly with the DTEK Company and under technical administration of Center42 within the UN RPP and with financial support from the governments of Denmark, Switzerland, and Sweden.
The UN RPP is implemented by four UN Agencies: UNDP, UN Women, UNFPA, and FAO.
The Program is supported by twelve international partners: EU, EIB, US Embassy in Ukraine, as well as the governments of Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden, and Japan.
