On November 23, in Kyiv, during the panel “Ecology – Green Mind” within the Innovation Market International Forum, MDI presented the Energy Efficient Schools: New Generation Project. The panel was organized as part of the presentation “Sustainable Consumption of Energy”, the new Information and Education Project for School Students.

MDI Executive Director Ruslan Tormosov presented MDI’s initiatives and activities on energy efficiency outreach and education under the Project “Energy Efficient Schools: New Generation”. Being consistent with the concept of the New Ukrainian School, the New Generation Project educates school students to become the conscientious consumers of housing and communal services and energy resources, who act as responsible owners of their flats and buildings and who are active and motivated energy efficiency leaders.

MDI Executive Director Tormosov emphasized on Project results under its Fifth Wave (academic year 2016-2017). These are: online distance learning program (implemented in Ukraine for the first time and approved by the Ministry of Education and Science in October 2018); number of participating schools, school students and teachers (858 schools from 476 locations, 656 teachers, 6642 school students of 6-8th and 9-11th grades); participation of manufacturers/vendors of energy efficient materials and equipment in energy efficiency improvements at schools; saving due to various activities under the Project (520 000 kWh of electric and heat energy, or UAH 1 100 thousand); and UAH 650 000 as investments in residential energy efficiency improvements at homes of school students.

Creation of three inter-regional groups of school students, 8 pupils in a group, has become one of the distinct features of the Project this year.  The groups were formed from school students of two cities (Burshtyn of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast and Zelenodolsk of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast). 20 best school students were offered the opportunity to participate in “Career 4.0”, a new initiative under which they are trained and helped through preparation and entering a university.

In attendance of the presentation were Project partners and developers, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, energy efficiency stakeholders.
