The neighborliness is such an obvious and familiar term, that most people do not even think about its multitude of meanings. So what is this phenomenon about, which are its hidden strengths and possibilities?
The neighborliness is the peculiar relations with neighbors, a trial, and an art to learn. It is a social and spatial construct that makes our living better. It is an artificial thing, since it is created by the due human efforts. In this environment people, while interacting, shape the common vision of what a home and living in it are. They need cleanliness, comfort, safety, and peace. They want to preserve, multiply, and adorn. They are proud of their home and mutual trust. They are glad to be back home, as far as it is their safe space in a fast-moving world. Therefore, neighborliness is also a culture.
Neighborliness has a hidden potential – it enables the creation of the common indivisible good, which requires joint efforts of many people to be achieved and then lets everybody benefit from it. Therefore, the neighborliness is also a tool for getting profit.
We can also mention the history, psychology, sociology, economics, and biology of neighborliness. The chemistry even. However, let us reserve it for the next publications within the Grant Activity “Good Neighbors – One Country”. For now, let us take a closer look at neighborliness and discover its pros.
The implementation of the Grant Activity “Good Neighbors – One Country” is possible thanks to the generous support of the American People, provided though USAID. It is a year and a half Program, aimed at the development of neighborliness culture and civic activity via the promotion of OSBB (Ukr. for multi-apartment building co-owners organization) institute. The Grant Activity is implemented by the All-Ukrainian Charitable Organization “Municipal Development Institute” (MDI) within the USAID DG East Project.
