The goal of the "New Generation" Project was to develop young leaders; independency and responsibility, and conscientious attitude to one's place of residence; to make young people involved in the collective activity aiming at improving comfort in their buildings, communities, cities and Ukraine as a whole through public education in technical, financial and legal aspects relative provision of housing and utility services.

MDI developed and implemented the training course "ABC of Management of Housing and Communal Services" in 12 schools of three cities of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast (Pavlohrad, Pershotravensk, Ternivka). MDI developed the Students' Manual for 10th grade school students of secondary schools and related Teachers' Manual.

The training course was premised on the expectation that the mentality and behavioral patterns of school students will change and that they stop being passive observers and start acting as primary participants, leaders, and initiative people and jointly change their living conditions and financial viability of utility service sector to better.

The business game "Smart House" (with the 3D model of a multi-apartment building) was part of the training course. In the game, real life situations in a multi-apartment building were simulated and school students were taught how to solve the problem situations. School students learned to be motivated and conscious service consumers who are well grounded in technical, economic and legal issues as regards provision of housing and utility services.

MDI Tasks

1. Develop training materials and a plan of Project events and activities.
2. Design a software application for the distance learning on-line training course and knowledge checks.
3. Develop the content of the distance learning on-line system and test the system in pilot schools.
4. Hold orientation workshops for teachers of pilot schools.
5. Launch the training course in pilot schools.
6. Conduct theoretical and practical training for team of volunteers on a competitive basis.

Results and Achievements

• Pilot training course "ABC of Management of Housing and Communal Services" was implemented in 12 schools.
• Course curriculum and training materials were approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine in December 2015.
• Manual "ABC of Management of Housing and Communal Services" was developed.
• Software application for distance learning training course and a computer game "Smart House" were developed.
